LE FIGARO INFO - According to our information, the sign directed by Alexander Falck has applied. In the meantime, a social plan could cover 1,500 to 2,000 jobs.
After Fly, the furniture But brand would be candidate for the takeover of Conforama, number two French sector. According to our information, the brand led by Alexandre Falck is the last candidate to buy the network of Conforama, which has 235 stores in France. But's management did not want to comment.
Like all assets of Steinhoff, owner of the brand since 2011, Conforama is for sale. The South African conglomerate, in great difficulty since massive irregularities were uncovered in its accounts, did not publish its audited financial results in 2017, nor in 2018.
In the hands of the Rothschild investment bank, the Conforama case was presented to many potential buyers, including Fnac Darty, who reportedly declined.
Social plans
Before entering into an exclusive negotiation phase with a candidate, Conforama restructures itself. A large-scale social plan is in the pipeline, which could lead to the elimination of 1,500 to 2,000 positions. Almost one-fifth of the group's workforce in France (9,286 employees). The interdepartmental committee of industrial restructuring (Ciri) confirms being at the bedside of the sign, following information from BFM TV. Ciri's job is to save as many jobs as possible by helping to choose the best buyer. In this regard, a But Conforama merger would create many duplicates at headquarters, and probably competition concerns. But had already been a candidate in 2011, during the sale of Conforama by PPR, which became Kering in 2013.
In addition to the difficulties of its parent company, the distributor had already entered a framed negotiation process with its partners last year, before concluding a financing agreement with Tikehau Capital for 115 million euros. Already fragile, the brand took full hit the decline in activity due to "yellow vests". A meeting with the unions is scheduled for March 5th.
