At the presentation of the BMW iX5 hydrogen in France, the German car manufacturer announced more information about the development process of hydrogen-powered cars. Hydrogen cars will look a lot like the battery-electric BMWs of the future. The big challenge: a large tank for hydrogen in the place where the battery is located in battery cars.
"Hydrogen-powered passenger cars are complementary to battery electric, there is no reason to oppose this," emphasizes Vincent Salimon, Chairman of BMW Group France. “The unique properties of fuel cell vehicles are important for longer journeys, when using the vehicle in cold weather, when refueling is required quickly and when towing heavy loads over long distances. Battery-powered vehicles cannot do this, or only to a very limited extent.
