Local Corp ist in 2011 und 2012 von den Fixkosten von 150 Marketing/Vertriebsleuten aufgefressen worden. Derart hohe Fixkosten kann bei einem Agieren unter dem Break Even Poing nur dann längere Zeit durchalten, wenn man einen hohen Kassenbestand hat - und den gibt es nun einmal bei Local Corp momentan nicht, weil man 2011/12 auch noch ca. 20 Millionen in Zukäufe investiert hat.

Es blieben daher nur zwei Alternativen:

Alternative I: Ausgabe neuer Aktien, um die hohen Fixkosten so lange finanzieren zu können, bis man den Break-Even-Point erreicht hat

Alternative II: Fixkostenabbau durch Aufgabe/Rückbau des direkten Vertriebs, was die Fixkosten massiv nach unten treibt

Würden die Aktienkurse den Wert des Unternehmens besser widerspiegeln, wäre auch die Alternative I eine sinnvolle Lösung gewesen. Denn so arbeiten ja viele IPO's, die über längere Zeit in Kauf nehmen unter dem Break-Even zu arbeiten. Andererseits war der direkte Vetrieb auch schon dadurch gestorben, dass man sich sehr schnell vom Aufbau eines landesweiten Daily Deal-Geschäfts verabschiedet hatte. Insofern ist die Entscheidung für Alternative II richtig, da sie nicht zu einer Verwässung über eine hohe Aktienzahl führt und man mit einem Betriebsergebnis von 5 Millionen bereits in 2013 rechnen kann.

Third Enhanced Directory Assistance Patent Focuses on Mobile Implementations

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 6, 2013-- Local Corporation (NASDAQ: LOCM), a leading online local media company, today announced that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company patent number 8,359,049, which covers a mobile, pay-per-call Enhanced Directory Assistance method and/or system. This is the company’s third issued Enhanced Directory Assistance (EDA)-related patent that expands its reach into this high-growth area.

Issued on Jan. 22, 2013, the patent describes an Enhanced Directory Assistance method and/or system that uses wireless messaging protocols to receive keyword search data associated with a directory service request and matches it with a relevant advertiser associated with the keyword search. As part of the method, the requester is sent the directory listing for the advertiser and a callback number. Based on the second call to the callback number, it is determined that the directory listing was selected by the requester. This patent extends the company’s family of Enhanced Directory Assistance patents into wireless messaging systems, with potential uses extended to a host of potential mobile applications, such as the company’s Local.com mobile app, which was recently named as a finalist for the 2013 Appy Awards in the Search Tools category.

Issued on Nov. 13, 2012, the patent describes a system and method for enabling the bulk acquisition and management of multiple web domains. The patent covers the technology related to the fulfillment of web domains. Local Corp. is currently using this technology for its small and medium-sized business (SMBs) customer as well as for the development of its recently announced vertically oriented lead generation sites. The method includes collecting a set of domain names for bulk content development, some of which are derived from user-provided keywords; filtering the set of domain names based on matching the domains to most-often used search terms by consumers; automatically submitting domain names for purchase; applying a template to the web domain related pages; and inserting content in those pages.
“The domain name industry continues to grow, with the number of domain names registered worldwide expected to top 305 million by 20181,” said Heath Clarke, Local Corporation chairman and chief executive officer. “This method is already being used as part of our Launch by Local SMB fulfillment platform and forms the basis for our site expansion into lead generation verticals.
