Porcupine Joint Venture (49% interest) - Canada
On July 1, 2002, Kinross formed a joint venture with a wholly-owned subsidiary of Placer Dome Inc. In May 2006, Goldcorp acquired Placer Dome’s 51% interest and became the operator. The formation of the joint venture combined the two companies’ gold mining operations in the Porcupine district in Timmins, Ontario. Capital, exploration and operating costs are funded in proportion to each party’s ownership interest. Upon creation of the joint venture, Placer contributed the Dome mine and mill and Kinross contributed the Hoyle Pond, Nighthawk Lake and Pamour mines, exploration properties in the Porcupine district as well as the Bell Creek mill.
