Revenue rose 29% to hit $3.62 billion for the fourth quarter, and the growth would be slightly higher if you back out the mobile gaming and Baidu Deliveries units it unloaded over the past year. Baidu was targeting $3.34 billion to $3.52 billion on the top line for the quarter in late October. BEIJING, April 27 (Reuters) - Chinese internet search giant Baidu Inc blew past earnings estimates on Thursday, sending its U.S.-listed shares sharply higher in after-hours trading as investors cheered strong growth in its advertising business.
The firm, which has had to bounce back from a bruising medical advertising scandal in 2016, said it was now taking extra measures to clean up content on its platforms amid a fierce online crackdown by China's censors.
Baidu said it now expects second-quarter revenues of between 24.91 billion yuan ($3.93 billion) and 26.19 billion yuan ($4.13 billion), indicating a 19.3-25.4 percent rise versus estimates of a 15.9 percent climb according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S...."

Recently, Baidu’s, Inc. (BIDU - Free Report) price target was increased by more than 27% from $240 to $305 by Bernstein’s analyst Bhavtosh Vajpayee. The analyst also revised the stock’s rating from “Underperform” to “Market Perform.”

The upgrade comes on the heels of iQIYI’s public listing. Further, the company’s recent plans to vend its financial services business along with the previous divestitures of its food delivery and gaming businesses in 2017 has enabled Baidu to focus on its core businesses, like search engine platform, newsfeed and cloud.

The analyst predicts Baidu to generate 20% revenues from its core businesses.
Bernstein analyst remains optimistic about the increasing growth opportunities in Baidu’s search engine platform, newsfeed and cloud businesses.

Baidu’s Chinese language-based internet search engine will continue to drive its top-line growth in the upcoming quarters. The company expects 19% growth in revenues from this business in the second quarter......

Quartals führte  durch die Ankündigung von Google, dass diese mit einer zensierten Version wieder auf den chinesischen Markt wollen, bei der heutigen Kursentwicklung ins Negative. M.E. eine Überreaktion. Was ist dann mit Tencents   "wechat" auf dem amerik. Markt. So einfach wird es in Zeiten von "Handelskriegen" nicht gehen.

Paradox. Baidu legt erstklassige Quartalszahlen vor - rund 30 5 Umsatzwachstum YtY und 300 % Gewinnwachstum - und die Aktie gibt 10 % ab. Ursache für den Kursrutsch ist wohl die Ankündigung Googles in den Heimatmarkt von Baidu einzusteigen.

Allein, es wird die Suppe oft nicht so heiß gegessen wie sie gekocht wird. 1. Muss Google den Einstieg erstmals umsetzen. 2. Ein Einstieg Googles bedeutet nicht zwingend, dass Baidu vom Markt der Suchmaschinen massive Anteile verlieren muss. In Russland konnte Goggle den Platzhirsch Yandex nicht verdrängen und musste sich auch langfristig mit Platz 2 begnügen. In Japan erreichte Google einen Marktanteil von 64 % andere Suchmaschinen behaupteten aber ein Drittel des Marktes. Da Baidu und andere sich schon etabliert haben, wird man sie in China nicht so einfach hinwegfegen können. Erschwerend für Googles Expansionswunsch kommt hinzu, dass die mächtige Regierung Chinas in Zeiten des Handelskrieges zwischen den USA und China nicht gerade begeistert sein dürfte eine heimische Firma von einem us-amerikanischen Konkurrenten beiseite schieben zu lassen. Mutmasslich wird die Regierung Baidu schützen und Googles Markteintritt erschweren, rückgängig machen oder ganz untersagen.

Im durchaus vorstellbaren Szenario eines tatsächlichen Markteintritts von Google in den chinesischen Suchmaschinenmarkt, werden die bisherigen Platzhirsche Baidu, Quihoo und Sogou sicher einige Marktanteile verlieren. Dies kann aber durch Wachstum des Gesamtmarktes und andere Geschäftsfelder von Baidu langfristig soweit kompensiert werden, dass es zumindest für ein gesundes Unternehmen wie Baidu nicht existenzgefährdend ist.

Die Korskorrektur halte ich daher auch in ihrem Ausmaß für angemessen. Google könnte leicht ein Drittel des chinesischen Marktes lanfristig nehmen. Das es so kommt ist aber nur bedingt sicher, was den zu erwartenden Verlust schmälert. Bis es soweit ist, wenn überhaupt wird noch viel Geld von Baidu verdient werden.
